I first heard this very beautiful rendition of our National Anthem by Cindy Ruakere whilst listening to ZB Talk-Back on Thursday night (24 February 2011). It was played by Pat, the talkback host sometime past midnight after we had heard the agonising story of James (no surname)& his ordeal in the devastating Christchurch earthquake. Pat was so moved by James’heart-renching story that he decided to take a break & played Cindy’s National Anthem for Christchurch folk & in fact for all people in NZ. It was such a haunting & yet heartwarming version of our National Anthem that many callers phoned in asking Pat to play it again (which he did approx 5am). I have never heard such a lovely rendition of ‘God Defend NZ’ & Cindy is obviously a very caring & prayerful person. May God bless her. I intend to buy her CD “Karakia” & have played it over & over on her website. THANK YOU, CINDY, FOR BEING SUCH A DELIGHTFUL INSPIRATION TO US ALL.
